Hidden Keys to Student Engagement
September 7, 2026 in Christchurch | September 15, 2026 in Auckland

Student engagement is one of the greatest challenges facing education today. Across early childhood, primary, and secondary settings, teachers are seeing the same concerning patterns: declining curiosity, reduced motivation, rising anxiety, increased behavioural complexity, and growing teacher burnout.
Working harder, adding more content, changing curriculum, or limiting devices may help at the edges, but these approaches do not always reach the root of the problem.
In this powerful presentation, Dr. Gordon Neufeld offers a developmental lens for understanding what is happening to today’s learners and why so many students are becoming harder to reach. He will introduce a two-phase model of student engagement that reveals the hidden conditions needed for curiosity, motivation, resilience, and meaningful learning to emerge.
This session will be especially valuable for educators who want to better understand their students, strengthen engagement, and create learning environments where both students and teachers can flourish.

Costs: Early bird before 31 JULY - $250 (student $220)
General Registration $ 300 (student $270)

Neufeld Aotearoa Conference 2026.
Why our Kids are Struggling - and what they need from us.
September 8, 2026 in Christchurch
Across every setting — home, school, and community — children and teens are signalling distress. Rising anxiety, reactivity, disengagement, and emotional overload are becoming increasingly common. These are not signs of broken kids but signs of developmental needs going unmet in a rapidly changing world.
This conference brings parents, educators, and professionals together to make sense of these struggles through the Neufeld attachment‑based developmental approach. We’ll explore what today’s conditions are activating in kids, why so many are losing their footing, and how adults can become the safe harbour they need in order to grow and thrive.
This year, we are honoured to welcome Dr.  Gordon Neufeld live and in person — a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s leading developmental theorists. His presence adds depth, clarity, and a uniquely personal dimension to the conversations we most need to be having.
At a time when the challenges feel big, this gathering offers clarity, direction and hope. Come and meet with each other, gain insight from Dr Neufeld and hear some "stories from the field" presented by the Neufeld Aotearoa team.

Hold on to your Kids in a Digital World | September 14, 2026
We are in dire need of solid insights that can inform our kid’s relationships with screens and reshape how we manage them in our children’s lives.
As parents, we are often caught in an exhausting daily battle, trying to pry our kids away from their devices. But what if the relentless pull of the screen isn't just about the technology itself? While we are increasingly coming to understand the concerning impact of digital technologies on our youth, there is hardly any understanding of how screens affect their most important relationship of all: the one between us and them.
Restricting screen time alone will not address the root problem. We must first come to understand the relational dynamics that drive digital obsession. When attachment energy shifts horizontally to peers our kids’ devices are no longer just a toy nor a tool but become an emotional lifeline to their peer group, driving an around-the-clock obsession to stay connected.
In this one-off Auckland event, internationally renowned developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld will deliver a profound paradigm shift for New Zealand parents. Dr. Neufeld will use his attachment puzzle pieces to make sense of screens, their intense pull on our children, and their insidious effect on family dynamics. By restoring the "vertical transmission" of the parent-child relationship, we can shield our kids from digital harm and ensure they find refuge with us rather than in a wounding online world.
